‘Orijin Nou Paka Kondane Nou’: Miss World Haiti dazzles in colorful tribute to Haiti’s Madan Sara

Under the lights of the Voco Scenia Bay stage, Miss World Haiti brought a piece of home to Vietnam this week, dazzling a crowd of more than 10,000 spectators during the “Dances of the World” segment of the Miss World 2026 pageant, held Tuesday, September 2.

Representing Haiti, Marie Kemlyne Lestalie Félix moved across the stage in a whirlwind of color, layers of red, green, yellow, blue and purple fabric spinning with every turn, a crimson-and-white headwrap crowning the performance. It was a costume built not just to be seen, but to be felt: an unmistakable tribute to the Haitian Madan Sara, the market women whose resilience has long powered the country’s informal economy and, for generations, its households.

“Orijin nou paka kondane nou”

Accompanying the performance, Félix shared a message dedicating the moment to her grandmother, whom she affectionately called “Tante Sarah,” and to the Madan Sara more broadly, the women she described as having never stopped fighting for life.

“Pou Grann Mwen ‘Tante Sarah,’” she wrote. “Pou Kilti a. Pou tout Madan Sara ki pa janm sispann bouske lavi. Pou tout sila yo k ap viv nan move kondisyon.”

She continued with a declaration that has since resonated widely among Haitian viewers online: “Orijin nou paka kondane nou”.

The message struck a chord far beyond the pageant stage, framing the performance not simply as a costume competition, but as an act of cultural reclamation, a reminder that Haitian identity remains a source of pride rather than shame.

Clips and photos of the performance spread quickly across social media, with fans and fellow contestants alike weighing in. Among the comments was one calling Félix “Stunning… Runner up Queen of World 2026”, a sign of the buzz building around Haiti’s representation on the international stage.

Miss World Haiti’s turn at “Dances of the World” now stands as one of the most talked-about moments of the lead-up to the main event. The Miss World 2026 final is set to air live on September 5, with public voting open for national ambassadors ahead of the broadcast.
