Melchie Dumornay leads Lyon’s Champions League rout with two goals and an assist

Haitian international Melchie Dumornay delivered a dazzling performance Wednesday night, scoring twice and setting up another goal as OL Lyonnes crushed Servette Chênois 8-0 in the opening round of the UEFA Women’s Champions League league phase.

The 23-year-old midfielder was the most relentless presence on the pitch at the Stade de Genève. She was involved in the game’s first goal, the second, the fourth and the sixth. An outstanding performance from the Mirebalaisian.

Her pressure forced Servette defender Laia Ballesté into an own goal in the eighth minute, and Lyon never looked back. Her precise service later set up Marie-Antoinette Katoto for the second goal, and Katoto went on to score a hat trick.

Dumornay then struck herself in first-half stoppage time (45+1). Released by Salma Paralluelo, she raced through the middle, beat her marker and lifted a cool, elegant finish over Servette goalkeeper Jacintha Weimar. Even the home crowd applauded. Lyon’s official Facebook account celebrated the moment by praising “our Haitian” for a “beautiful” goal.

Shortly after halftime, Dumornay struck again, finishing a cross from Katoto to make it 6-0.

Laura Strik added a second own goal for the hosts, and Inès Benyahia completed the scoring in the 88th minute.

The result extends a blistering start for the eight-time European champions, who have scored 30 goals in four matches across all competitions this season and are chasing a first Champions League title since 2022.
