Haiti’s Hannes Delcroix delivers stunning hat trick in Switzerland

Haitian international Hannes Delcroix delivered the finest individual performance of his career on Sunday, scoring a rapid-fire hat trick to power Swiss Super League leaders Lugano to a commanding 4-0 win over bottom-placed Lausanne, extending the club’s advantage at the top of the table.

The 27-year-old center back struck three times in a breathless span between the 35th and 52nd minutes at Stade de la Tuilière. He opened the scoring with a close-range finish before adding two precise headers early in the second half, all three goals coming from crosses delivered at set pieces. Lausanne’s afternoon unraveled further after defender Sekou Kone was sent off, and Karim Sow’s own goal completed the rout.

The outburst was especially striking given Delcroix’s modest scoring history: he had netted just four goals in his entire senior club career before Sunday’s match, meaning he nearly doubled his career tally in a single afternoon.

Sunday’s heroics came in Delcroix’s first full season in Swiss football following his transfer from Burnley in January 2026. Beyond his surprise goal-scoring form, he has been a steady, authoritative presence at the back for head coach Mattia Croci-Torti, whose side is chasing Lugano’s first Swiss league title since 1949.

The result put Lugano six points clear of Sion and Young Boys atop the standings after eight wins in nine matches this season, with the club averaging three goals per game. Lugano will look to keep that pace when league play resumes on October 10 with a home match against FC Luzern at the AIL Arena.
