Haiti’s electoral race takes shape as CEP approves 17 political groupings
Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council (Conseil électoral provisoire, CEP) has published the final list of approved political groupings ahead of the country’s upcoming elections, the institution announced in a press note issued this Thursday.
Acting under Article 129 of the Electoral Decree of June 2, 2026, the CEP said it is informing the general public and political actors that seventeen political groupings, bringing together 228 political parties, have received a favorable opinion in view of the country’s next electoral contests.
The council said the full list is also available on its website, www.cephaiti.ht, as well as on its official Facebook page and X account.
At the same time, the CEP reminded political actors that the registration period for political regroupings will close on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., in line with the electoral calendar currently underway.
The council reaffirmed its commitment to conducting the electoral process in an inclusive and impartial manner, in strict respect of the principles of independence, transparency, integrity, and democratic accountability.
A wide field, dominated by one large coalition
The 17 approved groupings vary sharply in size. The largest by far is VIKTWA, led by Camille Leblanc, which alone brings together 50 political parties. Several mid-sized coalitions follow, each uniting between 10 and 13 parties, including SOLÈY (Edouard Wadner, 13 parties), Coppos-Haïti et Alliés (Salomon Jamil, 13 parties), MYÈL (Michel Legros, 13 parties), Ayiti Transfòme (Jean Davide Geneste, 12 parties), and En Avant Pour Haïti (Nancy Vilce, 12 parties).
The remaining groupings, among them Solidarite pou Ayiti Respire, Debout Patriotes, Debout Citoyen pour la transformation d’Haïti, Lapeh ak Alye’l Yo, Anfòs Pou Sove Lonè, Delivrans, Platfòm Rekonsilye, Konbit ak Aksyon pou Ayiti Bèl, Platfòm Politik Gras pou Ayiti, and Grand Rassemblement National Démocrate, each count between 10 and11 member parties.
Together, the 17 groupings represent the vast majority of the 228 parties the CEP says have now cleared this stage of the process, positioning them to compete under a unified banner rather than individually in the upcoming polls.
Thursday’s announcement is the latest step in the CEP’s rollout of the 2026–2027 electoral calendar. It follows an earlier, non-final publication of approved groupings on August 8, and comes as the council also moves forward with the accreditation of journalists and election observers for the vote. With the registration window for political regroupings set to close Friday afternoon, attention now turns to the next stages of candidate registration under the electoral decree published on June 2, 2026.
