Haiti rallies from behind to beat Trinidad and Tobago 3-2 in Nations League opener

Haiti overcame a second-half collapse to beat Trinidad and Tobago 3-2 on Thursday at Sabina Park, opening its 2026-27 CONCACAF Nations League campaign with a dramatic stoppage-time comeback.

Fafa Picault put Haiti ahead in the first half, but Trinidad and Tobago answered with goals from Wayne Frederick and Levi García to take a 2-1 lead. Wilson Isidor set up Garven Metusala’s equalizer in the 91st minute, before heading home the winner himself in the 98th minute to complete the comeback.

“I am very happy to help the team win,” Isidor said after the match. “Costa Rica is going to be a tough team to face.”

The result was also the first win for head coach David Badía since taking charge of the Grenadiers last month.

The victory marks Haiti’s return to the Nations League’s top tier, League A, after winning promotion out of League B last season with a perfect six-game record. It is the Grenadiers’ first competitive match since exiting the group stage at the 2026 World Cup this summer.

Haiti and Trinidad and Tobago share Group A with Costa Rica, Curaçao, the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. Haiti will face Costa Rica next in group play.
