Haiti hires Roger Stone for $65,000 a month as Haitian-American group seeks answers

The Haitian American Foundation for Democracy, a Miami-based advocacy group, is demanding that Haiti’s transitional authorities explain why they hired Roger Stone Jr. to lobby on their behalf.

The contract was registered with the U.S. Justice Department on Sept. 16. Stone’s Fort Lauderdale firm, Drake Ventures LLC, will receive $65,000 a month, or up to $780,000 a year. The deal runs through Sept. 2, 2027, and renews automatically unless either side gives 30 days’ notice.

The foundation says the spending is hard to justify while the Haitian state cannot pay its police, its teachers or its hospitals. In a Sept. 23 press release, it asked Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé’s government to explain the purpose of the agreement. Opposition figure André Michel called the deal “an absolute scandal.”

Critics also note the timing. More than 300,000 Haitians in the U.S. have lost Temporary Protected Status, and the filing describes the work only as issue advocacy. Haiti’s foreign ministry has issued no public statement on the deal.
