Haiti Government funds 242 entrepreneurs, projects expected to create 1,400 Jobs

Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé personally handed out checks to beneficiaries of the government’s entrepreneurship support programs on Wednesday, August 19, during a ceremony at the Hotel Oasis. In total, 242 projects were selected from more than 2,500 applications, with officials projecting the initiatives will generate over 1,400 direct and indirect jobs.

Fils-Aimé reaffirmed his government’s commitment to supporting Haitian entrepreneurs and positioning private initiative as a major lever for the country’s economic recovery. He later praised the courage and determination of the women, young people, and entrepreneurs who, he said, continue to create, produce, and invest despite the country’s difficulties.

“Behind every dollar of support lies a simple but powerful message: we still believe in Haiti’s capacity to rebuild itself through work,” Fils-Aimé said, according to a press release published by the Primature.

Three programs, run through the Commerce Ministry

The funded projects fall under three government programs administered through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI): the Women’s Entrepreneurship Support Program (PAEF), the Youth Entrepreneurship Support Program (PAPEJ), and the Integrated Business Development Program (PIDE). The initiatives back projects in sectors the government considers strategic, including agro-processing, technology, artisanal crafts, services, the green economy, and recycling.

Of the more than 2,500 project applications reviewed across the three programs, 242 beneficiaries were ultimately selected to receive funding, which officials say is expected to contribute to the creation of more than 1,400 direct and indirect jobs nationwide.
