Exclusive: Haitian filmmaker Robenson Lauvince announces new movie to shoot in Haiti

In an exclusive interview, acclaimed Haitian filmmaker Robenson Lauvince announced a major new film project set to begin shooting in Haiti at the start of 2027, marking one of the most ambitious homegrown productions in recent memory for the country’s film industry.

The movie will be filmed across several Haitian cities, with Fond Parisien serving as the primary shooting location. Lauvince did not disclose further plot or casting details for the project during the interview, but confirmed that the production will draw its cast directly from Haiti through an open audition process.

Auditions to Begin in Cap-Haïtien

Rather than casting exclusively frome stablished talent, Lauvince said auditions will be held in multiple cities across the country, with Cap-Haïtien hosting the first round. A panel of judges will oversee the audition process and select the cast members deemed the bestfit for the project.

The approach reflects a deliberate choice to root the production in Haiti’s own talent pool rather than importing a cast, opening the door for aspiring Haitian actors outside the traditional Port-au-Prince entertainment circuit to be part of a major film.

“I Want to Give Back to the Community”

Asked about his motivation for bringing a production of this scale home to Haiti, Lauvince pointed to a sense of responsibility toward the country and its people, saying he wants to give back to the community that shaped him.

That sentiment lines up with the trajectory of Lauvince’s career. Born in Port-de-Paix and now based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, he founded Clearshot Entertainment, which became the first Haitian-American production company to bring a Haitian Creole-language film tothe U.S. box office.

The Haitian filmmaker has built a filmography that includes Married Men, Je m’en souviens, and the 2025 political documentary July 7: Who Killed the President of Haiti?, and has been recognized internationally for his advocacy of authentic Haitian storytelling, including an invitation to a Sundance Festival panel on Caribbean and African film industries in 2024, and a proclamation from Miami-Dade County in his honor in 2025.
